Football question?

Allright I joined football and I think Im too small and slow for any position really, and plus coach put me in varsity cause i am a junior i am 5'7 with no shoes and 153 lbs. all i coudl see my self playing is safety but im not quick enough and have no experience at all. if i want to play varsity id have to go for safety. but i want to be a linebacker but i guess im too light. this is a 7AAAAA school what do you guys think should i still go for safety, by the way im a little overwieght so that slows me down, i guess i could be SS.., i cant bench a lot but when i tackle i tackle hard, i attended srping football and played LB.. that was jv.. now im in varsity and idk what to do .what u guys think

Football question?
Workout with the team and practice-even if you don't make the team, you can use the training to get into shape and get a little stronger; besides, maybe you will make some new friends who can teach you how to play safety or LB and the coach will keep you on the team

I say for your size, why don't you tryout for safety and LB. Some coaches will let you try for two positions.
Reply:The question is, do you want to ever get on the field on Friday nights? If the answer is yes, then try to look at the special teams for you starting spot. Try to learn how to long snap or catch punts. Many teams suffer at these positions because some coaches do not spend much time on them. If they can find a player that in interested and can perform well through practice, they will be greatful. As far as a particular position, the center doesn't particularly have to be large and some offenses prefer a shorter lighter center so that he may get on linebackers quicker than a big fat nasty beast. Hope this helps.
Reply:Stay at safty. I played safty at 6'1 230lbs. I am not fast at all. But I knew where the ball was going most of the time, and I led the conf in Int's. Safty is fun. All you do is fly around the ball. Run up and hit the running back on running plays, and never let anyone behind you on passing plays. Watch the QB's head he will tell you where he is throwing everytime. Break early and you will get a lot of Int's. If you like LB you will love Safty. You still get to make BIG hits, and you see the whole play happen. Hope you stick with it. Good Luck.

Reply:SS, you dont have to be that fast you just have to be aware of everything and have good skills reading the QB
Reply:Ask yourself this question first: Do you think your experienced enough to play Varisty? Personally unless your extremely athletic and/or very great at a position, I wouldn't go for varisty simply because those kids have either played varisty for about 2 years now or they got the experience at the lower levels to play for Varisty.

As far as a position, ask your coach to set a few position drills so that way you can evaluate yourself and find out what you'd be good at. Once you do, hit the weight room and try to slim down so that your not overweight and will not slow you down. Depending on what your position is you'll either need to lift more, or run more. Since you can tackle hard i'd recommend either inside linebacker or strong safety. If you want to be the linebacker, slim down just enough to wehere your gain agility and quickness and hit the weights hard. If you go out for strong safety, you'll need to slim down as much as you can to gain agility, quickness and speed, but dont forget to build up some strength too since you need to tackle big players eventually.

Just remember that experience is key, and whatever level you play on or what position you play at, always try to get better and learn from your experience. If your coach put you on varisty you must have shown him something about your game that he likes, so don't dissapoint him. Find the right position for you, improve your health and physique according to your position, and practice at it as much as you can and good luck.
Reply:Uh.......i'm going with the first person to answer this question because I know absolutly NOTHING about football. sry!
